Ann Taylor Loft engaging for real on Facebook

It's pretty amazing when you see simple company engaging initiatives on social media. Ann Taylor Loft saw costumers complaining about one of their products and right the other day replied to them. Amazing interaction, great response. It remindes me of one of Gary Vaynerchuck (@garvee). presentations, when he said that sometimes we need to start problems just so we can talk to our customers. It's always important to keep the channel between you and your customers tuned!

JWT article:

With consumers still spending cautiously, retailers must work hard to show they understand their customers’ needs. Social media is one way to go, but simply collecting Facebook fans or responding to negative Tweets, comments, etc., won’t necessarily forge long-term loyalty. Rather, as we advise in our Social Media Checklist, brands must truly address the issues that are driving customer complaints. The Ann Taylorretail brand Loft recently showed how to do so promptly and easily.

Several Loft fans on Facebook noted that they’d prefer to see the retailer’s new silk cargo pants on “real women” rather than the tall blonde shown in photos on the page. “I have my doubts that these will look flattering on anyone other than the model!” wrote one woman. “What about pear shapes, or short legged? Or plus size?” So the next day, Loft showcased five staffers of various heights and sizes, wearing the pants as part of their regular work outfits.

This fast response to fans’ feedback generated very positive comments. Said one commenter: “Thank you so much for doing this. I’ll be shopping at your stores more often now and suggesting you to friends as well!” While social media gives brands a great tool to interact with consumers, many are missing simple opportunities such as this one to show they’re listening and demonstrate reasons to buy.

World Cup 2010

Brian Sollis posted about how the world cup enhanced the creativity in social media. From Twitter hashtags with flags to Budhouse reality series on Youtube, a whole bunch of innovations came up just because of the biggest sports event in the whole world! There's also the buzz created around #calabocagalvao and all the videos about the vuvuzela, including the most recent "will it blend?". The final is coming, but a lot was done. We are anxiously waiting for another World Cup! And maybe this time Brazil will do a better job. :(

Collaboration Now

More collaboration projects are popping up every where! The next big thing is Ridley Scott's movie called "Life in a day" about common people and their daily activities. The director will put together pieces of movies shot in a single day (July 24) by people like you and me. Not only creating a huge collaboration platform, this is also showing us how to do a great campaign based on WOM. Spread it out! The movie will be released at the Sundance Festival January 2011 and you can be picked up among everybody that contributed with materials to join them. Collaboration is all about giving, but you can also take something back!
Check out how to participate at "Life in a day" Youtube channel.

The other project is called "one frame of fame" and counts on you to finish a music video for the C-mon and Kypski. They just released their single "more is less" and you can send them a picture to be part of it. As the group says, a music video by 1804 of our friends (and counting). There's a website where you can watch the video and learn more on how to participate. The video is updated every hour, so sent them your picture and check it out in a few minutes!
